This summer, we’re excited to share a new limited podcast series from KHOL and Stio in the Jackson Unpacked feed. In five episodes, "Facets: Voices of the Mountain Life" explores the passions, tensions and healing that people find while living in a mountain town.
The fifth and final episode, “Making Jackson Home,” is about how a wave of immigration, primarily from Mexico, has transformed the workforce, schools and broader community of Jackson Hole since the mid-1990s. KHOL’s Kyle Mackie digs into the local history of immigration and shares stories of how Latino immigrants and first-generation residents are putting down roots and making Jackson home. This episode features additional reporting by Natalie Schachar and Alicia Unger.

The fourth episode, “Leading The Change,” is about Wyoming women, who have been breaking boundaries ever since the state became the first to grant women the right to vote in 1869. KHOL’s Emily Cohen speaks to contemporary pioneering women, including the first woman on the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort ski patrol and Wyoming’s first Native American woman to run for national office, about how they’ve pushed boundaries in a landscape of extremes.

The third episode, “Healing Outdoors” is about Red Top Meadows, a residential treatment center near Wilson that serves Wyoming boys aged 12-17 who have gotten in trouble with the law or are having behavioral issues at school. Red Top is unique in Wyoming because it incorporates wilderness therapy into its program. KHOL’s Kyle Mackie shadows Sam, Connor, Gavin and others and listens while they share their stories of growth and healing outdoors.

This summer, we’re excited to share a new limited podcast series from KHOL and Stio in the Jackson Unpacked feed. In five episodes, Facets explores the passions, tensions and healing that people find while living in a mountain town.
The second episode, "Preserving a Teton Icon," is about the small population of bighorn sheep that persists in the Teton range in impossible conditions—often above 10,000 feet. Local wildlife biologists who have been painstakingly tracking the population for decades say the herd is in danger, and are therefore proposing winter backcountry closures to try and give the sheep some space. KHOL’s Will Walkey reports on how the effort is pitting some skiers against conservationists and exploring the very core of what it means for humans to interact with public lands.
